Mermaid Sighting 1943....
-From the Diary of Christopher Columbus, January 9, 1493-
"The day before, when the Admiral was going to the Rio del Oro, he said he saw three mermaids who came quite high out of the water but were not as pretty as they are depicted, for somehow in the face they look like men. He said that he saw some in Guinea on the coast of Manegueta."

the headlined year appears to be a major typo... chris columbus lived around the 5th century as the main article says... so even if he did encounter partial humanoid beings, he couldn't have had a camera to take their pictures, ho ho ho

What do you mean about a camera? If you mean the word "depicted" that can indicate a painting or drawn representation as well
